OBJECTIVE:
Sofrimar, a leading seafood processing company, sought an efficient and sustainable cleaning solution that would not only simplify their cleaning processes but also significantly reduce water usage and operational costs. Their goal was to implement a method that aligned with their environmental and financial sustainability targets.

CHALLENGE:
Sofrimar faced a substantial challenge in their day-to-day operations, as the cleaning processes consumed large quantities of water. This not only increased operational costs but also impacted the company’s sustainability goals. With two primary product lines requiring extensive cleaning, reducing water consumption without compromising hygiene standards was a critical concern.

SOLUTION:
To address this challenge, Sofrimar implemented a Centralised Cleaning System. This innovative solution centralized the cleaning processes, allowing for more precise control over water usage while maintaining high cleaning standards. The system also improved the efficiency of cleaning, making it easier to monitor and manage.

RESULT:
By installing the Centralised Cleaning System, Sofrimar achieved significant operational improvements. Notably, the company saw a 30% reduction in the volume of water used per tonne of product processed across its two main product lines. This reduction led to substantial savings in water costs and contributed to Sofrimar’s commitment to environmental responsibility. Additionally, the streamlined cleaning processes resulted in reduced downtime and increased productivity, enhancing overall operational efficiency.

Achievements

30% less water Water
Water flow rates were reduced from, on average 100L/min, to between 30 and 40L/min. Due to the positive feedback from cleaning staff, these flow rates have been reduced further to between 20 – 30L/min.
Less aerosols
Improved water sprays from the nozzles reduced misting throughout the site which improved the efficiency of the final rinse cleaning step.

The payback on the investment was about 13 months and has resulted in significant annual savings for Sofrimar on their water charges.
